DRAFT - Parent Progress Report Template (longer-period summary)

STATUS: DRAFT for adult review only. Not sent. The safeguarding lead translates this and sends it personally. CEFR range: Pre-A1 to A2+ | Age band: 6-12 | Length: about one page

What this is: the longer-period summary (for example every 6-8 weeks or one term). A short note after each lesson is a separate template: see parent-session-note-template.md. The level indicator appears here (and in the level check), not in the per-session note. Terms (Tutor, human tutor, safeguarding lead) are defined in parent-in-the-loop-design.md, section 1.

Rules for this report: first name and age band only. No exact birth date, surname, school, address or photo. No medical, legal or counselling statements. Do not compare the child with other children. No mood or personality words about the child (no "shy", "happy and kind" and so on); write what the child did. No referral wording: any suggestion to see a teacher or specialist is the safeguarding lead's own decision, made by hand. If an item has been hard for several sessions, use only: "This has been hard for several sessions. We will try a different way to practise it. The safeguarding lead is happy to talk it through with you."

EXAMPLE (INVENTED DATA - NOT A REAL CHILD)

"Example child: Child A, age band 7-8." Child A is invented. All details below are made up to show how to fill in the template.

Progress report

Child: Child A, age band 7-8 Period covered: 7 September to 30 October (8 lessons) Prepared by: Tutor (draft). Checked and sent by the safeguarding lead.

1. Level now Child A is working at A1. (This is a guide, not an official exam result.)

What Child A can do now: - I can say the time on the hour, for example "It's seven o'clock." - I can say six daily actions, for example "I get up" and "I eat breakfast." - I can ask and answer "What time do you get up?" with a picture to help.

2. Strengths Child A listened carefully and answered quickly. Child A joined in with every game and tried new sentences. Child A's "three" and "eat" were clear.

3. Next steps We will practise "half past" and short sentences about weekends. We will also practise the small word "at" (for example "at seven o'clock").

4. How you can help at home - Ask Child A one question in English each day, for example "What time do you eat dinner?" Accept a short answer. - Let Child A teach you three new English words each week. - Watch one short, child-friendly English video together and talk about what you liked.

5. Attendance and engagement Child A came to 8 of 8 lessons and joined in very well.

6. Closing Child A joined in with every game. Thank you for your support. We look forward to the next lessons.
